Handmade Paper Flower Basket

Nothing goes better with Valentine’s Day than flowers. But who wants flowers that only last a week? If you want a gift that will stand the test of time, try a paper flower basket instead!

Paper flowers are so fun, I even made a whole flower wreath of them! But you and your kids will love making this simple flower basket made with paper flowers. It’s a bunch of small paper flowers that sit on top of a 2-D woven basket to make the cutest card, wall art, and more. It would make the perfect gift for friends and neighbors!

If you really want your gift to stand out, you could even fill a treat box with and add this paper flower basket to the box!

You’ll end up with the most beautiful and unique handmade gift! Luckily, it’s also pretty easy to make!

Supplies

• Paper flower template
• Colored craft paper (brown, green, and your chosen flower color)
• Craft glue
• Pencil
• Scissors

How to Make Your Paper Flower Basket

Make Time: 20-25 minutes

Age level: 8+

• To make your paper flower bouquet basket, start by downloading our paper flower templates and printing them out. You’ll want to cut them out as well to use them as a template on your craft paper.
• On the green paper, trace the leaves and cut. Fold them in the center to create a crease and set them aside.
• Cut a basket shape out of your white paper. Set aside.
• Next, cut out 10-12 thin strips of the brown paper. It’s up to you how thin you cut them, but somewhere between 2 mm – 4 mm looks best depending on the size of your “basket” that you cut out. Set the strips aside.
• Trace both the paper flower templates onto your colored paper, making as many flowers of each size as you want to sit in your basket.

• Now it’s time to assemble! To make your flowers, start with the outermost edge of the flower and start rolling your spiral towards the center. Once you get to the center, add some glue center and press the coiled petals down to stick the whole flower together.
• Repeat the process with the rest of your flowers and let them sit for a few minutes to let the glue dry.

• To make your basket, take your white basket cut-out and glue your brown strips of paper vertically, parallel to each other. They should be spaced out about the same distance as they are wide.
• Repeat this process again with the brown paper strips, this time making horizontal lines to create a woven looking pattern.
• Use scissors to trim the edges of the brown paper strips to match up to the outline of your white basket base.

• Glue the basket onto your paper of choice and glue the flowers onto the top in a random fashion. Add your leaves around the flowers and your flower bouquet basket is complete!

Tips Tricks and FAQs

• If you have little hands helping you, it might be easiest to cut everything out beforehand on your own. They may have experience cutting but since these flower templates are a little intricate it may make the process simpler to have it all ready before they help!
• Have a Cricut or a silhouette machine? You can cut the time of this craft in half if you upload the pdf to your design application and let the machine cut for you! Then all you have to do is glue!
• For an awesome basket, you’ll want to use a paper cutter to get perfectly straight strips of brown and white paper. Scissors will work fine, but a paper cutter works even better!
