Today we are going to make a fabric heart wreath out of old fabric. This gorgeous heart wreath is super simple and if you can tie a knot you can make it! It is a different type of fabric heart wreath than the other fabric wreaths I have made in the past but still just as simple.

Today’s heart wreath started with finding a great deal on this stretchy white fabric last summer. There were 4 yards of it on sale at Walmart for only $3.60. Normally I don’t like buying fabric if I don’t have a certain project in mind. But this was such a great price, I decided to get it anyway.

I am glad I purchased it because this fall I used it to make a giant pumpkin. But making the giant pumpkin was more for entertainment and I didn’t expect to keep it. So I was still looking for a reason to use this beautiful white stretchy fabric.

Well today is the day! We are going to make a gorgeous fabric heart wreath for Valentines Day!

So let’s get started!

Here are the supplies needed to make a fabric heart wreath:

  • 3 yards of fabric, I like stretchy fabric for this craft
  • scissors
  • 14″ heart wreath
  • Dollar Tree steering wheel cover
  • lace or ribbon to hang the wreath

Here’s how to make a fabric heart wreath the easy way:

Step 1: Cover your heart wreath with a steering wheel cover

I know this sounds funny but if you can find a steering wheel cover at the Dollar Tree it’s worth using it for this wreath. To start, use the wheel cover to cover your heart wreath. You can also cover the wreath form with felt or other fabric. It is not necessary to cover the wreath form but it helps to cover up any gaps in between the fabric strips.

Step 2: Cut your fabric into strips

Set aside your heart wreath form. And now take your fabric and cut the fabric into 9″ x 1/1.5″ strips. You can also make the strips wider if you want to cover more of the wreath at a time. I used a stretchy fabric so I didn’t make the strips too wide.

You can cut the strips as you go or you can just cut all the fabric into 1″ strips before you begin making your wreath.

Step 3: Tie your fabric strips on your heart wreath

Now that you have your fabric strips you are going to tie them onto your wreath. Take your fabric and stretch across your wreath. Tie a knot with the strip.

Now turn the fabric strip so that it is facing out from your heart like below.

Next you are going to continue tying fabric strips all around your heart. Tie your strips on and then bunch them together as you go. I chose to bunch my strips very close together so there were no gaps in between strips.

Completing the entire heart wreath took me about one hour. And the most time consuming part was tying the fabric strips onto the heart. But at least it was very simple. I put on my favorite podcast Revive our Hearts while I was doing it. You could also do this in a long car ride somewhere.

Tip: When you get to the bottom point of your heart you may want to use some hot glue to keep the strips in place. Use hot glue on the strips that you add on the point and around it.

Step 4: Attach ribbon or lace to hang your heart wreath

The last step is to attach a ribbon or lace onto your heart wreath so that you can hang the wreath. I looped some vintage lace around my heart and hot glued it into place.
