QSFP 28

The QSFP 28, a type of QSFP optics, is commonly used for super fast 100G networks. Think of it like a superhighway with four lanes, each handling 25G of data. Plus, a QSFP connector can team up with four SFP28 transceivers using a unique QSFP optical cable. When it comes to transmitting data, it uses a digital technique called PAM4.

QSFP-DD

The QSFP-DD, where "DD" means Double Density, is like the advanced version of the QSFP28. It's twice as wide, offering more data lanes and connecting more QSFP fibers. This means it's super fast and can deliver data with speed at 400G. It can even team up with older QSFP modules, making it a flexible choice for different network setups. Also, some of our QSFP-DD cages come with a heat sink design.

QSFP+

The QSFP+ is like an upgraded version of the older SFP+ module. It's really efficient and can replace four SFP+ transceivers. So it's like a space-saver in a network, and it's hot-swappable, which means you can plug it in without turning off your system. It is possible to connect a QSFP+ port to four SFP+ ports with the right transceiver module.

FAQs

What is the difference between QSFP-DD and QSFP28? ›

QSFP-DD has the maximum data rate 200Gbps or 400Gbps depending on signal modulation technology used. Its main difference when compared to QSFP56 or QSFP28 is that QSFP-DD name states – double density, this means that its electrical lines are doubled from 4 to 8.

What is the difference between QSFP+ and QSFP28? ›

QSFP+ (Quad Small Form-factor Pluggable Plus) is designed to support data rates of up to 40 Gigabits per second (Gbps) per port. On the other hand, QSFP28 supports data rates of up to 100 Gbps per port, making it capable of higher bandwidth and faster transmission.

Is QSFP112 compatible with QSFP-dd? ›

The QSFP112 modules will also be able to be accepted by QSFP-DD connector and cage. The QSFP112 will be able to support both optical and copper interfaces, but those physical layer specifications will be done outside of the MSA specification as is usual for form factor MSA specifications.

Can I plug QSFP+ into QSFP28? ›

A 100G QSFP28 port can generally take either a QSFP+ or QSFP28 optics. If the QSFP28 optics support 25G lanes, then it can operate 4x25G breakout, 2x50G breakout, or 1x100G (no breakout). The QSFP+ optic supports 10G lanes, so it can run 4x10GE or 1x40GE.

What does QSFP-dd stand for? ›

QSFP-DD 200G / 400G

QSDP-DD stands for 'Quad Small Form Factor Pluggable Double Density'. "Double Density” means it supports double the number of high-speed electrical interfaces compared to a standard QSFP28 module. It is fully compliant with IEEE802. 3bs and QSFP-DD MSA standards.

Is QSFP28 backwards compatible with QSFP+? ›

Backward Compatibility: QSFP28 ports are generally backward compatible with QSFP+ modules. This means you can plug a QSFP+ module into a QSFP28 port, and it will function properly. The port will automatically downgrade to support 40Gbps transmission, utilizing the QSFP+ module's capability.

What does QSFP stand for? ›

QSFP, or quad small form factor pluggable, is another type of compact, hot-swappable transceiver. It supports Ethernet, Fibre Channel, InfiniBand and SONET/SDH standards with different data rate options.

Can QSFP28 run at 10GB? ›

With the necessary hardware, the switch's QSFP28 100G port can operate in 40GbE, 4x 25GbE, and 4x 10GbE modes in addition to 100G mode.

What is the difference between QSFP-DD and QSFP DD800? ›

QSFP-DD800 is the enhanced version of QSFP-DD, with backward compatibility with all QSFP form factors. However, the QSFP-DD thermal whitepaper clearly points out its differences from the standard QSFP-DD. QSFP-DD800 is the industry's smallest form factor of the 800G module that provides a data rate of 800G.

Is QSFP-DD compatible with QSFP28? ›

QSFP-DD ports can accommodate QSFP-DD, QSFP56, QSFP28 and QSFP+ products.

What is the difference between QSFP and QSFP112? ›

QSFP112 represents the evolution of the QSFP transceiver form factor. Its streamlined, four-electrical lane architecture delivers a remarkable reduction in power consumption compared to its predecessor, QSFP-DD.

Is QSFP-DD backwards compatible? ›

And they can enable system designs capable of supporting next-generation pluggable coherent modules that may require higher power dissipation. Systems designed with QSFP-DD ports are backwards compatible to support existing QSFP+, QSFP28, and QSFP56 modules.

What is the difference between QSFP28 and QSFP28+? ›

QSFP28 transceivers are commonly used for 100G Ethernet and InfiniBand applications. On the other hand, QSFP28+ is an enhanced version of QSFP28 that supports higher data rates. It is designed to support 56Gbps per channel data rates, which enables a total aggregated data rate of 200Gbps.

What does QSFP port mean? ›

The Quad Small Form-factor Pluggable (QSFP) is a compact, hot-pluggable transceiver used for data communications applications. The form factor and electrical interface are specified by a multi-source agreement (MSA) under the auspices of the Small Form Factor Committee.

Is QSFP28 compatible with SFP? ›

SFP28 supports only one channel with 25 Gbit/s, while QSFP28 supports 4 separate lanes, and each is 25 Gbit/s. Both of them can be used in 100G networks, but the SFP28 is applied in the form of QSFP28 to the SFP28 breakout solution.

What speed is QSFP-dd? ›

QSFP-DD electrical interfaces employ eight lanes that each operate on up to 25 Gbps NRZ modulation or 50 Gbps PAM4 modulation, providing solutions up to 200 Gbps or 400 Gbps respectively.
