DIY Valentine's Day Sign (2024)

Did you receive a Cricut or similar machine for Christmas? Are you ready to create something cute and easy with it? This DIY Valentine’s Day sign is just what you need! This project only entails two colors of vinyl, you can find most of your supplies at the Dollar Store, and it’s a great project for StyleTech Craft gloss vinyl!

Who doesn’t want a reminder year round that they are loved?! So, I created this easy, very simple but cute sign for my daughter to give her teacher for a Valentine’s Day gift. I hope she will hang it in her classroom to remind the children year round that they are so loved.

Round chalkboard sign

Twine or jute

StyleTech Craft Gloss Vinyl {pink and white}

Transfer paper

Cricut or similar cutting machine

Weeding and burnishing tools

How to Make a DIY Valentine’s Day Sign

First, download the free Circle Arrow Frame from Silhouette School. Open your Silhouette software and open the frame file. I am all about free files, and this one is a file you can use over and over again!

Choose a font from your font list. I love the lowercase, thicker script fonts. Dallon, The Giant and the Mouse, and Mommy I Love You are some of my favorites for a project like this. Adding fonts to your software is easy!

Then, simply type a phrase in the design box. I chose “you are loved”, because it was simple, and thought it would work year round.

Align your phrase in the center of your arrow frame. To get your font to cut cleanly, you need to use the “Weld” option on your software. To do so, right click on your phrase, and choose “Weld”. This will format the font to cut smoothly, and your letters will flow easily from one to the next.

Size the frame so it fits your chalkboard sign. Then, place the text in the middle to size that so it will fit nicely on your board.

Set the phrase off to the side, off of your design screen in the gray area. Place your vinyl on your cutting mat, and choose Vinyl from the cutting materials, and set your blade accordingly. Send it to cut. Weed it, and set it aside. Repeat this with your text.

Place the transfer paper on your arrow frame, and trim it down so you can easily place it on your sign. Align it and smooth it down. Let it set a few minutes, and gently peel it at an angle off of the board. Repeat this with your text.

If needed, drill holes through the sign for the jute. My sign already had holes, so I just strung some jute through them to finish it off for hanging.

And you are done! This is a GREAT beginner Silhouette project. Add this to some Valentine’s Day Cookies or small treats, and you have a beautiful Valentine’s Day teacher gift!
