Important Notes

  • Bag is worked in the round.
  • Strap is worked in rows.
  • Joins are made with a slip stitch.
  • Colors changes are made when joining.
  • Fasten off old color during color changes or carry the yarn up.
  • Work first stitch(es) of each round in same stitch you joined to.
  • The single crochet that comes after the bobble stitch should be made behind the bobble stitch so that the bobble pops out on the right side.
  • The first star stitch of each round begins in the middle of the beginning ch 3.
  • The hdc2tog at the end of the star stitch rounds will prevent you from having a hole between your last star stitch and last stitch of the round.

Crochet Stitches

Half Double Crochet (hdc)

  1. Firstly, yarn over & insert hook in next stitch.
  2. Then, yarn over and pull up a loop. You will have 3 loops on your hook.
  3. Lastly, yarn over and pull through all 3 loops on your hook.

Half Double Crochet Decrease (hdc2tog)

  1. Yarn over & insert hook in next stitch.
  2. Yarn over and pull up a loop. You will have 3 loops on your hook.
  3. Yarn over & insert hook in next stitch.
  4. Yarn over and pull up another loop. You will have 5 loops on your hook.
  5. Yarn over and pull through all 5 loops on your hook.

Single Crochet (sc)

  1. Insert hook in next stitch.
  2. Yarn over and pull up a loop. You will have 2 loops on your hook.
  3. Yarn over and pull through both loops.

Star Stitch (ss)

  1. Insert hook in next stitch
  2. Yarn over and pull up a loop. You will have 2 loops on your hook.
  3. Repeat step 2 four times. You will have 6 loops on your hook.
  4. Yarn over and pull through all 6 loops.
  5. Ch 1 and insert hook in that ch.
  6. Yarn over and pull up a loop.
  7. Insert hook in the side of last star stitch
  8. Yarn over and pull up a loop
  9. Insert hook in chain at base of last star stitch
  10. Yarn over and pull up a loop
  11. Insert hook in next ch
  12. Yarn over and pull up a loop
  13. Repeat steps 11 & 12. You will have 6 loops on your hook.
  14. Yarn over and pull through all 6 loops, ch 1

Bobble Stitch (bo)

  1. Yarn over and insert hook in next stitch
  2. Yarn over and pull up a loop
  3. Yarn over and pull through 2 loops
  4. Repeat steps 2 & 3 four times in the same stitch. You will have 6 loops on your hook.
  5. Yarn over and pull through all 6 loops

Round 1 of Bag Bottom

Use Seabreeze yarn for rounds 1-6.

Ch 52, 2 hdc in the 3rd ch from the hook, 2 hdc in next ch, hdc in each of the next 46 chs, 2 hdc in each of the last two chs, you are now going to continue working in the backside of the chains, 2 hdc in each of the next two chs, hdc in each of the next 46 chs, 2 hdc in each of the last two chs, join (108 stitches)

Ch 2, 2 hdc in each of the first two sts, hdc in each of the next 50 sts, 2 hdc in each of the next four sts, hdc in each of the next 50 sts, 2 hdc in each of the last two stitches, join (116 stitches)

Round 3 of Bag Bottom

Ch 2, 2 hdc in each of the first two sts, hdc in each of the next 54 sts, 2 hdc in each of the next four sts, hdc in each of the next 54 sts, 2 hdc in each of the last two stitches, join (124 stitches)

Bag Top

Rnds 4-6: ch 2, hdc in each stitch, join (124 stitches)

Switch to Ecru yarn for rounds 7-9.

Rnd 7: ch 2, *hdc, ch-1, skip a st*, join to the first ch-1 space (62 ch-1 spaces)
