3/46

Buy a cheery bunch of daffodils or tulips (or pick some wild flowers from your garden) and wrap in fabric or tissue.

4. Bun case blooms

46 easy Mother's Day crafts for kids of all ages 2024 - Netmums (5)

4/46

Use colourful bun cases to make the prettiest bunch of spring flowers, like these ones made by First Palette.

Such a quick and easy spring craft for kids.

Instructions:

– Thread a button onto the end of a pipe cleaner and twist the end to secure it in place.
– Take two or three bun cases of different sizes. You can cut the bun case into smaller circles if you need to, or cut petal shapes out of them.
– Thread your pipe cleaner through all your bun cases until the button nestles in the centre of the top-most bun case.
– Make a few blooms and arrange them in a vase. You could also glue them to a piece of card to make a beautiful 3D card – perfect for Easter or Mother's Day.

5. Salt and sugar scrubs

46 easy Mother's Day crafts for kids of all ages 2024 - Netmums (6)

5/46

These salt and sugar scrubs are super easy to make, and they look and smell divine.

Toddlers and preschoolers will love getting messy to make these, too!

You can make salt scrubs with sea salt, and sugar scrubs using brown sugar.

They make your skin so soft and clean, and are a real luxury in a jar.

Instructions:

– Use one part oil to two parts salt/sugar – so for every spoon of oil, you add to your bowl, add two spoons of salt or sugar.
– For our most basic salt scrub, we mixed one part coconut oil to two parts sea salt.
– For our sugar scrub, we mixed one part almond oil with two parts brown sugar and then grated in some orange zest. Mix your ingredients well in a bowl.
– Spoon your scrub into a Kilner jar. Press down well.
– Add a pretty sticker to the top of your jars or as a label on the side, and tie on a gift tag.

You can try:

Simple salt scrub – made with one part coconut oil to two parts sea salt.

Sugar scrub – made with one part almond oil to two parts brown sugar with grated orange zest added in.

Lavender salt scrub – one part almond oil to two parts sea salt and add in dried lavender. You could also add a couple of drops of lavender essential oil.

Coconut lime salt or sugar scrub – use one part coconut oil to two parts sea salt or white sugar and add in grated lime zest or lime essential oil.

Shelf life

These scrubs should last at least six months, as long as they're stored in an airtight jar. They don't fare well if water gets into the mix. Salt scrubs last slightly longer than sugar scrubs.

When making them, check the shelf life of the oil you're using as a guide. Then, as long as they're stored in an airtight jar, that should be an indication of the product's shelf life too.

6. Gorgeous paper flowers

46 easy Mother's Day crafts for kids of all ages 2024 - Netmums (7)

6/46

Say thank you to Mum with a bunch of tissue flowers that will last a lot longer than the real thing!

Instructions:

– Thread a small bead (or you can use a button) through the end of a pipe cleaner and twist the ends to secure it in place.
– Take three tissue paper circles (it looks nice to use two contrasting colours and to 'sandwich' one of the different colours in between the top and bottom circles). Then poke the pipe cleaner through the circles.
– Scrunch all the way round the flower head to make petal shapes.
– Then either pop into a pretty vase to brighten your home or glue to a piece of card to make a beautiful 3D card.

7. Simple pipe cleaner bead bracelets

46 easy Mother's Day crafts for kids of all ages 2024 - Netmums (8)

7/46

Even toddlers and preschool kids (with adult supervision due to the choking hazard) can make these pretty bead bracelets, as they're so easy.

They make for lovely colourful gifts.

Instructions:

– Gather some beads. You can buy them in packs really cheaply from craft shops or online. Or perhaps you have an old set of beads you can cut up?
– Thread the beads onto a pipe cleaner. You can use string or elastic but the beauty of a pipe cleaner is that it doesn't move around and is easy for little hands to thread.
– Once you have enough beads to go round Mum's wrist, twist the ends to fasten.
– These bracelets are so quick and easy, you could make a whole bunch and give some to all the mother figures in your life, from nans to aunties and even family friends.

8. Beaded elastic bracelets

46 easy Mother's Day crafts for kids of all ages 2024 - Netmums (9)

8/46

These pretty bracelets are just as easy as the pipe cleaner style to make, but are made with elastic instead.

– Choose a selection of beads in your chosen colour scheme.
– Take your thread or elastic, make a knot in one end and start threading your beads.
– When you have enough beads to fit around Mum's wrist, tie the elastic securely and then, to hide the knot, tie on a short length of pretty ribbon in a bow.
– Why not make a whole set of beaded bracelets to give as gifts?

9. Clay pinch pots

46 easy Mother's Day crafts for kids of all ages 2024 - Netmums (10)

9/46

Make little clay pinch pots as lovely gifts. Your child can go to town on the painting and decoration to make each pot unique. You could fill with sweets or tiny treats, too.

Instructions:

– Roll clay into a ball between the palms of your hands. If you're doing this with very young children, warm up the clay in your own hands a bit first before they have a go.
– Place your clay ball on the table and use a thumb to make a deep hole in the centre.
– With your thumb at first, start to push the clay from the centre to the sides. Then use your fingers to pinch the sides and work all the way round the pot until you get a nice shape and thinnish sides.
– You can add detail by pressing in a drinking straw or a fork to make patterns.
– Mix some paint with PVA glue (a mix of about half and half).
– Now paint your pot. The PVA will act as a varnish when your pot is dry. Of course, you could simply paint, then varnish instead.

You can make these pots out of Fimo modelling clay or playdough, too.

10. Flower vase collage

46 easy Mother's Day crafts for kids of all ages 2024 - Netmums (11)

10/46

This craft is so simple and clever, and it gets the kids outside for a minute too!

Use black pen to draw a vase onto a piece of paper. Then pick fresh flowers from your garden or local park, and glue them onto the vase.

11. Felt flower brooches

46 easy Mother's Day crafts for kids of all ages 2024 - Netmums (12)

11/46

These felt flower brooches are so quick and easy to make, and add a pop of colour to any outfit. Kids will need a grown-up to help them make them, though.

Instructions:

– Cut out a circle of felt. The bigger your circle, the bigger your brooch will be.
– Starting at the outer edge, cut your circle into a spiral.
– Then coil the spiral round, starting from the inside and working outwards.
– Secure your flower with a small stitch in matching thread.
– Turn your flower over and sew stitches all along the back to secure the flower shape in place.
– Sew on a safety pin or brooch to the back.

12. Hand-painted kitchen utensils

46 easy Mother's Day crafts for kids of all ages 2024 - Netmums (13)

12/46

You could put these together with a pretty apron or a gorgeous bowl, too.

Instructions:

– Buy some wooden kitchen utensils. We bought a set for under £2, and you should be able to find them at most home stores and even supermarkets. You'll make them look so much more expensive and unique by the time you've finished.
– Wrap some masking tape around the top of the 'neck' of your spoon or spatula. If you're painting a spatula, it looks nice to place the tape at an angle so you get a neat diagonal edge.
– Paint the handle of your spoon/spatula. We used acrylic paint.
– Once dry, peel off the tape and paint with a coat of food-safe varnish. Wrap your set of utensils with pretty paper and tie with a ribbon for an extra flourish.

Want to add more?

Include a bowl, a pretty apron or some baking goodies. Package together in a box or basket for the perfect gift for foodies.

13. Hand-painted patterned pegs

46 easy Mother's Day crafts for kids of all ages 2024 - Netmums (14)

13/46

When you hang out the laundry, why not have the prettiest pegs in town?

Instructions:

– Take some wooden laundry pegs and choose three or four paint colours.
– Paint your pegs. If you paint the bottom of the pegs first then clip onto the side of a tin or mug, it's then easier to paint the tops.
– Dip a co*cktail stick into paint and print on tiny polka dots and stripes (or let the kids' imaginations run wild as they create their own designs, or even make the pegs into little people).
– Gather a bundle of pretty pegs and wrap with twine or ribbon and add a pretty gift tag to complete your pressie.

14. Paper hyacinth

46 easy Mother's Day crafts for kids of all ages 2024 - Netmums (15)

14/46

These paper hyacinths look gorgeous in a vase.

- Cut out several thin strips of pink paper (you'll want 20-30 strips in total).
- Hold each strip flat between your thumb and a scissor edge, then pull the paper between the scissors and your thumb to make them roll up.
- You can add a little glue to the rolled pieces of paper to help them keep their shape.
- Paint a dowel rod green, or cover it in green paper.
- Glue your rolled up strips of paper onto the dowel road so that the top half is covered in paper petals.

Make sure that your kids are supervised by adults with this craft – you may need to take over with the scissors bit to avoid any unwanted cuts!

15. Flowers printed with celery

46 easy Mother's Day crafts for kids of all ages 2024 - Netmums (16)

15/46

How pretty are these flowers? They're actually made by printing with celery!

Such a quick and easy craft for kids, but a lovely one to make cards for Mother's Day.

Instructions:

– Cut the bottom section from a stick of celery – about 2cm from the bottom. This bit needs to be done by an adult.
– Dip the celery heart in red or pink paint.
– Print the celery on your piece of paper or card. The prints look like flowers.
– Finally, embellish by painting on leaves with green paint.

These prints are perfect for making special greetings cards. Let your children experiment with different colours of paint and printing with different parts of the celery to make different patterns.

You can print with a whole host of other vegetables, too – everything from the humble potato to broccoli, carrots and more.

Top tips for making Mother’s Day handmade gifts with kids

  • The number one rule is to always put down plenty of newspaper or plastic sheeting before you start. A cheap tarpaulin or paper tablecloth can be a great option. It’s surprising how far paint can go when kids are involved, so be sure to protect a wide area of floor. Keep kitchen roll or baby wipes close at hand for any emergency clear-ups, too.
  • It’s best to dress the kids in old clothes, or give them an apron to protect their clothes. An old adult t-shirt is an easy way to protect clothes if you don’t have an apron to hand.
  • Always supervise toddlers and preschool kids while they’re crafting. Small items like buttons and beads can easily find their way into a child’s mouth, so keep a careful eye on them to reduce the risk of choking.
  • Be extra careful when doing anything with magnets, such as creating artwork for the fridge, as magnets are dangerous if swallowed.
  • Be sure to praise your kids for their Mother’s Day creations. Even if it’s not a work of art, you can always congratulate them for trying so hard!
  • Why not display your special Mother’s Day gifts around your home? The fridge is always a classic, but if your child has come up with something really special, you could even consider having it framed. They’ll be so proud!
