To celebrate the month of love, I've tracked down and tested 10 free crochet patterns for love hearts that I'm so excited to share with you.

After seeing so many love heart crochet patterns popping up on social media in the lead up to Valentine’s Day this year, I knew I had to do another round-up review.

With so many free crochet patterns for love hearts available online, how do you know which one is the right one for you?

That’s where this blog post comes in.

Here you’ll find 10 free love heart crochet patterns that I have tried and tested.

And yes, that’s right… I haven't just found the free crochet patterns for you, I've made each love heart so I can share a real review in order to help you find what you need quicker.

In this post, you’ll get the link to where you can find each of these free crochet patterns online, my personal opinions on each, the level of difficulty, tips, and of course, you’ll get to see how my love hearts turned out using each of the patterns.

I hope this blog post helps you find a free love heart crochet pattern that’s right for you. Now, let’s get stuck in - here are ten free crochet patterns for love hearts…

#1 Free Crochet Heart Pattern by Sarah Stearns

This free crochet pattern by Sarah Stearns includes three size variations for a crocheted love heart. You could make a mini, medium, or large crochet heart using this pattern. While the large crocheted heart is the biggest of the three sizes in this pattern, it isn’t massive, and it isn’t the largest crocheted heart listed in this blog post. The love heart shape however is absolutely gorgeous in all three sizes. It is lovely! No pun intended…

While this written crochet pattern was super easy to follow, I would personally recommend it for crocheters who have a bit of experience. A magic ring (or magic loop) is required as the hearts are crocheted in the round, and you also need to be proficient at crocheting a treble crochet stitch (in US terms). For more experienced crocheters, this pattern will be an absolute breeze. There are also helpful tutorial photos included throughout the free online crochet pattern.

#2 Amigurumi Heart Free Pattern by Mari-liis Lille

Let me start by saying this is probably the most gorgeous amigurumi heart shape I’ve seen out there, and it is super easy to crochet! As long as you’re familiar with crocheting in the round, you’ll be able to crochet this gorgeous heart.

This amigurumi love heart pattern by Mari-liis Lille is well-written and simple to follow. There aren’t any tutorial photos however, so you will need to be comfortable with reading a written pattern. You’ll also need some stuffing as this is a 3D crochet heart.

The only word of warning I have is that because this is an amigurumi heart, it does take a little longer to make than a lot of the ‘flat’ heart patterns on this blog post. But don’t let that stop you let this make steal your heart away.

#3 Love Heart Free Crochet Pattern by Cilla Crochets

Since this is my blog, I would be silly not to include one (or two) of the free love heart crochet patterns I’ve published. I will of course promise to be as neutral as possible and just give you just the facts.

This particular crochet pattern makes another type of amigurumi 3D love heart. This crocheted heart has less rounds than the above heart designed by Mari-liis, making it quicker to make, but the shape is flatter (e.g. the two humps of the heart aren’t as prominent).

10 Free Crochet Patterns for Love Hearts — Cilla Crochets (4)

This is an easy love heart crochet pattern, and as long as you are able to crochet in the round, you should have no issues at all. The online crochet pattern does also include a couple of tutorial photos throughout.

#4 Easy Crochet Hearts by Amanda

Amanda from Love and Loops Crochet published this cute crochet pattern for three sizes of love hearts.

10 Free Crochet Patterns for Love Hearts — Cilla Crochets (5)

These love hearts are similar in size to the three hearts by Sarah Stearn, however the pattern is slightly different and also includes the addition of an optional surface slip stitch detail. The surface slip stitch detail is also really well explained with both a written and photo tutorial.

In order to crochet the three different sizes of love hearts, you simply stop after round 1, round 2, or round 3. While this pattern is very easy to follow, I would recommend it for crocheters who have a little experience. The pattern requires you to work in rounds and also includes a treble crochet stitch (US terms).

#5 Crochet Granny Heart by Robin

As someone who makes a lot more amigurumi than other type of item, this pattern was a little bit of a challenge for me to get right. Once I did though, I absolutely loved the result!

10 Free Crochet Patterns for Love Hearts — Cilla Crochets (6)

As you can guess this pattern is called a Crochet Granny Heart because it uses a similar technique to the Granny Square. So if you are a big granny square fan, you’ll love this heart so much!

My biggest tip when using this pattern is to follow the pattern exactly as it is written, because it is quite easy to miss a step or two (even though it’s clearly written on Robin’s blog). As there aren’t any tutorial photos throughout, you will also need to be comfortable reading a written pattern. Because of this, and the treble stitch used throughout, I would recommend this heart for intermediate crocheters.

#6 Love Heart Ornament by Cilla Crochets

This was a crochet pattern I designed as a Christmas decoration. However since it is a love heart, I thought I had better include it in this blog and show you a slight modification. The original pattern was created with two hearts, stuffed in the middle, and crocheted around the edge. This crochet heart you see here is the exact same pattern, minus the second heart and the stuffing.

It is a larger crochet heart in comparison to all the patterns shared so far, and this one is also crocheted back and forth in rows instead of in rounds. This technique combined with the basic stitch combination, makes it suitable for anyone that’s fairly new to crochet. Just remember, if you’d like the effect shown here, only crochet one heart, and skip straight to crocheting around the edge in a second colour.

Love heart crochet pattern #6

#7 Quick Crochet Hearts by Jessica

Firstly, I have to say, the little crochet heart made from this crochet pattern is one of my favourites. It is so ridiculously cute, the shape is just perfect, and it’s also the smallest of all the crocheted love hearts showcased in this blog post.

So this crochet love heart pattern by Jessica from Stitching Together gives you the option of three sizes - a tiny, small, or a larger crochet heart. In comparison to the other crochet patterns for three sizes of hearts, all three sizes have come out smallest using this pattern. They are petite, but very pretty.

The three heart patterns are all very easy and quick to make. Since they do all require you to work in rounds and to use a treble stitch, I’ve suggested that the ‘crochet skill level’ is intermediate rather than easy. However, I will say that the treble stitch is not at all hard to learn, so if you want to give it a go, don’t let this put you off. This is a written pattern but also includes quite a few tutorial photos throughout the help you through. All in all, a really lovely heart pattern.

#8 Crochet Heart Embellishment by Ashleigh

This crochet heart embellishment pattern by Ashleigh is a very quick make and would look great on a card as a decoration for a loved one. While I feel like my crochet creation doesn’t do this pattern a lot of justice, I really had to add it in, because the stitch combination it uses is very clever!

10 Free Crochet Patterns for Love Hearts — Cilla Crochets (9)

This heart is easy to make, and uses a combination of chains, double crochet, decreases, increases, and a slip stitch to top it all off. It is an easy written crochet pattern, but does require knowing how to decrease with double crochet stitches (it isn’t that hard, I promise!).

#9 Heart Coaster Crochet Pattern by Ali

This heart coaster crochet pattern by Ali is an easy make that is made by crocheting back and forth in rows. This is the largest heart crochet pattern of all those featured in this blog post.

The title of this heart crochet pattern gives away what it was made to be used for (a coaster), but it is small enough to be used for anything from bunting to a simple gift for a loved one. Overall, if you’re looking for a large, easy crochet heart pattern - this one is for you.

#10 Crochet Heart Pattern by Karen Stangroom

Unlike all of the crochet heart patterns above, this crochet pattern by Karen is in video form on her YouTube channel, Conquer Crochet. You also have the choice of following along with the left-handed or right-handed crochet tutorial.

Now, the result for this small heart is absolutely adorable! It’s also functional with it’s little loop for hanging as a decoration.

10 Free Crochet Patterns for Love Hearts — Cilla Crochets (11)

While this crochet pattern is similar to a few of the above crochet patterns that I’ve rated as ‘intermediate’, this helpful video tutorial means you can easily follow along even if you are new to crochet. Therefore, I’ve made this one easy even though it does require a magic circle, and a treble crochet. I really enjoyed making this one, and I’m sure you’ll love it too!
